The Rui Freire - Fine Art gallery is pleased to announce The Rest is Silence, Bruno Castro Santos' first solo exhibition at the gallery.
The Rest is Silence presents a selection of works on paper, realized between 2018 and 2021.
The choice of a language within abstract tradition, as Bernardo Pinto de Almeida points out in his text entitled Elements of an Ambient Painting, historically situates and gives indications regarding the affiliation of the singular practice of the artist Bruno Castro Santos. He elaborates a space that goes beyond the pictorial, as the author refers in the same text. The artist himself states, in the interview conducted by the Director of the Patricia & Phillip Frost Museum - Miami, Dr. Jordana Pomeroy, that (…) if I don't feel an alignment between Love and the activity, I also don't feel an alignment between the dream and the ability to realize it".
The title - The Rest is Silence - brings us back to the last words of Prince Hamlet in Shakespeare's play of the same name, and the different interpretations they evoke, but also to a broader concern present in Bruno Castro Santos' work that relates art to life, in the search for a primordial intuition, essential to achieve an inner balance.
